The Crash (2026) Netflix

 

A teenager has a high speed crash, killing two other people, her boyfriend and his best friend, what looks like a tragic accident soon uncovers something sinister, was it actually an 'accident'? This is a superbly produced documentary from Netflix, it plays out slowly building up the story with genuine footage of the horrendous aftermath of the crash, CCTV footage of the actual crash and interviews with the Police, family and close friends. The outcome is quite shocking, with real footage from the Courtroom on making their judgment and the outcome to all those involved. Essential viewing.

Thrash (2026) Netflix

 

I "pre-reviewed" this about a month ago, but with some hope, the director, Tommy Wirkola, was responsible for the quality 'Violent Night' and 'Dead Snow', but with some trepidation, it's made by Netflix. The plot is an absolute rip off of the awesome Alligator flick 'Bait' a few years back, a violent storm rips through a small town where upon an Alligator goes on a killing spree, well this is the same premise but with sharks, and oh dear, the result is grade B movie making. A slow turgid first hour, the CGI for the storm in all fairness is very, very good, but the shark effects at times are pretty embarrassing, the acting poor, characters really quite annoying, especially the pregnant woman who you  just hope gets munched to shut her up. The final third things do pick up a little, but by then I'd gone past caring, it does include the un-intentional hilarious line when someone exclaims "we need something that runs on batteries....and vibrates!!!" though!

** COMING SOON** Thrash (2026) (Netflix)

 

Now 'Crawl' from a few years ago was a belter of a horror flick, and this is so similar it plot, it's a bit cheeky. A violent hurricane rips through a coastal town bringing destruction and chaos, but things get really bad when it brings something worse...a bunch of hungry Sharks!

Now I LOVE a Shark movie so this caught my attention straight away, the "bad news" is that it's a straight to Netflix release, but the really good news is it's directed by the guy who bought us the mad 'Dead Snow' and the Christmas cracker from a few years ago 'Violent Night'.

It's out on release on April 10th.

War Machine (2026)

 

It's a mad blend of 'Predator' and 'War Of The Worlds', the "invasion" isn't really explained but who cares. It's an hour and forty minutes and machine gun, bullets flying, soldiers getting fried and losing various limbs, lots of chest beating, concluding with some nauseating US flag waving that would give 'Independence Day' a run for it's money. Good fun, all in all.

Adolescence (2025)

 

When you host a blog called "The Absolute Horror", this masterpiece of TV drama really does fit the bill, real life unimaginable horror and grief. First things first, THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!!

The acting in this Netflix series is off the scale, there are three pivotal moments I think show the power of this drama. Episode 1 when Stephen Graham as the Father Eddie being shown the shocking CCTV footage of his son Jamie cold bloodily murdering the schoolgirl. Episode 3 when the incredible acting talents of Owen Cooper and psychologist Erin Doherty are show in full force, one of the most brutal 60 minutes of TV drama ever. Who though can forget the final scenes of Stephen Graham breaking down in the final episode leading to the gut wrenching scene of him lying on his son's bed, overwhelmed by grief at the "loss" he and his family have to live with, just unbelievable drama, and which fully deserves every single award.

1000 out of a 1000.

Frankenstein (2025)

 

The classic story of Frankenstein has been told in over 60 movies, from the classic Boris Karloff release in the 1931, the superb sequel, 'Bride Of Frankenstein' four years later, and of course the Hammer era of films such as 'Curse of Frankenstein' in the 60's, but in recent years the releases have been nothing to really shout about, the rather weak 1994 release with Robert De Niro springs to mind. So, when it was announced there would be a new telling of the classic Mary Shelley tale, directed by none other than Guillermo del Toro, horror fans expectations were high, so, does it deliver?

Oh yes. From it's very first minute the story is captivating, the film an absolute work of art, great performance's all round, the film builds and builds adding a final third story addition of the Monster's hunt for revenge on Victor, quite easily one of the movie highlight's of 2025 and a must watch on Netflik.

A House Of Dynamite (2025)

 

'A House Of Dynamite' is Kathryn Bigalows first feature length movie since the superb 'Detroit' back in 2017, yes we've had to wait 8 whole years for a new movie from this superbly talented lady. Her back catalogue is pure class, the aforementioned 'Detroit', 'Zero Dark Thirty', 'The Hurt Locker' and of course one of the great Vampire movies of the modern era 'Near Dark' which wipes the blood soaked floor of 'The Lost Boys' pretty boy/girl alternative. This of course is chock full of talent, Ibris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Clarke etc. The story is told through three scenarios of Ministers, Military big wigs and ultimately the President of the USA. Like I said the acting is top notch, the dread and impending horror for the future of mankind slowly builds, but some "critics" complained about the ending....we're dealing with Nuclear assured destruction, this isn't a Roland Emmerich ('Day After Tomorrow') movie, stick to your popcorn movies and leave stuff like this for the grown ups!

The Perfect Neighbor (2025)

 

This is a chilling all-footage documentary of a devastating "tragedy" which occurred in a Florida neighbourhood  in June 2023, when an innocent Wife and Mother was shot dead (through a locked door) by her neighbour over a minor dispute. All the footage is from Police body cams and original interviews, the documentary is so well edited you would think it was a found footage drama, the scenes when the terrible event occurs is quite shocking and harrowing. This is a heart breaking immersive piece of film-making and highly recommended.

Monster:The Ed Gein Story (2025)

The Ed Gein story is the latest in Netflix 'Monster' series based on true life serial killers, the last outing being the story of the Ramierez brothers. Charlie Hunnam is excellent as the lead, the series comprises 8 episodes and the first half dozen are 'entertaining' though obviously very shocking considering the levels of depravity Gein commits, the tone of the series is set by the final scene of episode one when he stands over his dead Mother to commit the most awful act imaginable. The trouble is once he's incarcerated in the seventh episode the whole series runs out of steam, too many 'dream' sequences and how he apparently helped the FBI to catch Ted Bundy (which is just  pure fiction) the whole show just fizzles out sadly, and could have been trimmed down easily to just the six episodes.
