Passenger (2026)

A couple witness a fatal car crash then find them pursued by supernatural stalker....This movie got some good press on release a few months ago and it's deserved. The film kicks off from the start with the eerie evil premise, and slowly builds throughout. Small shades of a 'Final Destination' movie when the couple release their "fate". The demon is suitably creepy with only fleeting flash frames building to an explosive climax. I have to admit I would have preferred a "different" finale but this is a satisfying small budget horror release and well worth seeking out.

Best "new" movies June 2026

What with the World Cup taking most of my time this month, the movie count has gone down, but still some belters I must recommend.

1.Sheep Detectives 2026 (just an absolute joy)

2. Iron Maiden Burning Ambition 2026 (not a massive Maiden fan but this is a great documentary)

3. Elephant 2003

4. The Bay 2012

5. Disclosure Day 2026 (slightly disappointing it must be said, and at times cliched)

Hungry (2026)

Well apologies for the lack of content in the past few weeks but the World Cup has been happening if you hadn't noticed, this one I watched a few good weeks ago, so let's get this blog back on track. 'Hungry', yes in Hungry Hippo, and I gotta admit I was looking forward to a cheesy "monster" movie but what a let down. This film is a slog: wooden acting, grating characters, and zero scares. The supposed killer hippo doesn’t even appear until halfway through, killing any suspense. While the special effects are passable, that’s the only redeeming quality in an otherwise tedious, uninspired, and frustratingly dull experience with zero scares, tension or low budget "fun". Avoid, like a real Hippo.

Mother's Pride (2026)

" The feel good film of the year", " A British comedy classic" are always warning signs for a movie, especially when the quotes aren't attributed to the source, usually garbage such as 'Hello' magazine, so the bar for this one are set low....here we go! Well the good news first of all, it stars some Brit comedy regulars, Martin Clunes, Mark Addy, Josie Lawrence, but the movie is the epitome of how Yanks think England is, all frothing  pipes, Mrs Miggins pie shop, and everyone's middleclass. It's the team behind the lightweight 'Fishermans Friends from a few years ago, your Mum or Gran will like it, all Dad gags etc, you know where this film is going. If the film was a Pub it would be serving  weak lager, bags of peanuts stapled to an A4 pic of a lady in a bikini (remember those!) and "real ales" in proper pint jugs and inoffensive food.

Jennifer's Body (2009)

This is a rewatch of a movie I can vaguely remember, all I remember is Megan Fox for the obvious reasons but also for it's dark comedic tones, and its still  a wicked delight on rewatch. Its dark, black‑comedy tone meshes brilliantly with the film’s stylish visual violence and ever‑creepy atmosphere. Megan Fox’s sexiness fuels the absolute unhinged chaos, perfectly counterbalanced by Amanda Seyfried’s brilliant, grounded performance. The result is a sharp, seductive nasty horror‑comedy that still bites hard and entertains effortlessly

Jan-June 2026 Stinkers!!

It's got to be said 2026 has been a really good year in the movie world, especially in the Horror sector, but of course there are the Turkeys, not many so far, but here's my pick, all equally dull, inept or boring.

*Hokum (hogwash)

*Whistle (these two ^^ were just bang average and one's I really had high hopes for)

*Thrash (two bad sharks movies in a year!!!)

*Deep Water (now this is utter garbage but worth a watch just to see how inept the entire movie is)

*Apex (just bizarrely disjointed)

Deep Water (2026)

Where do I begin with this garbage? A plane load of idiots crash land in the Ocean, argue a lot then get attacked by the most angry sharks ever. It stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Aaron Eckhart, you expect the latter to be in trash like this but Ben Kingsley?? The film is pure 'Airplane', without the intentional (brilliant) comedy, the CGI just appalling, especially the second half when the setting is in broad daylight, Sharks flying out of the water, teeth bared, stuff that would look bad in a PS5 "cut scene". There's a quite bizarre scene where some bloke and his hot new Wife go for the "mile high club", whilst then very young daughter is just left in her seat, you see them again briefly, then that's it. The kid doesn't give two sh*ts for the entirety of the rest of the movie, just quite bizarre. Eckhart speaks in the same monotone pitch for the entire movie, but all things considered, I thoroughly enjoyed this car (plane) crash of a movie for all the wrong reasons!!

Still though, artistically, it's a 2/5

Best Horror of 2026 Jan-June.

So here we are, it's half time in the movie world and it's been a belter for the horror genre, he's my rough top10, the top 3 are solid.

1.Obsession (a no brainer, just awesome, out on VOD soon and hoping for the uncut version with the full on "steering wheel" moment, how can that be more shocking and brutal?!)

2.Send Help (an absolute riot from start to finish)

3.Over Your Dead Body ( Samara Weaving and Jason Segal just awesome)

4.They Will Kill You

5.Lee Cronin's The Mummy (the surprise of the year)

6.Untitled Home Invasion (a "small" release to seek out)

7.Primate (mental monkey!)

8.Cold Storage (again, great comibnation of horror and tongue firmly in bloody cheeks)

9.Ready Or Not 2 (more of the same but great entertainment)

10. Anaconda (under-rated, great fun with some nice gore)

Elephant (2003)

Based on the Columbine mass shooting this is a brutal bleak drama packed  full of impending dread. The film is only 80 minutes long but packs in a almost poker faced build up to the terrible disgusting event's that will unfold. A damning indictment of US gun culture, just buying  a semi-automatic machine gun and getting it delivered to your door like buying a KFC from Uber Eats. The final 15 minutes are cold, brutal, and unflinching, innocent people, teachers, pupils gunned down in cold blood to the very final final scene. Absolute quality, and grim, something that seems to be the norm in a country that really needs to look at it's ridiculous gun laws, or lack of them, in a very dark mirror.

Disclosure Day (2026)

It's a Spielberg Sci-Fi "epic", in other words it's two and a half hours long, as opposed to 1hr 20 mins of in and out action. So, the good points, the cast are excellent, Emily Blunt is superb, as of course Colin Firth and Josh O'Connor, and it was really cool to see Eve Hewson (from the superb TV drama 'Bad Sisters') given a big role in such a massive release. Right, the minus points, its running time is slow, typical Sci-Fi flim flam dialogue, the AI is quite frankly embarrassingly bad at times. There's a scene involving a Stag and a Fox, we're I thought it was a Christmas movie, borderline animation, I half expected to hear "Walking In The Air" below out and 'The Snowman' to fly over the trees! This is the man that gave us Dinosaur's that LOOKED like Dinosaur's might have been 30 years ago in 'Jurassic Park', not this sloppy lazy AI slop. As for the "big reveal", well just google "Alien 1950's" and that's what you get, 7 foot tall, big head and eyes, long skinny body parts, and again, average SFX. There's also a backstory of WW3 kicking off which is briefly touched, the Russians and North Koreans are kicking off, there's scenes of panic buying, um that's it?? And when the film ends, the big reveal/finale? .....ummm

Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition (2026)

Now I LOVE my metal, and Maiden when they burst onto the scene back in 1980 were just great, their debut was a classic, follow up 'Killers' wasn't bad, then along came Bruce Dickenson and the band were transformed, 'Number Of The Beast' again a classic, but after that I was more into other rock, be it the LA scene and the attitude of bands such as Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer. I only saw them once head-lining  back in the 80's, and after that pretty much ignored them for two decades. It must be said though I love a rock documentary so was quite looking forward to this film, the story of the band on their 50th (!) anniversary. And this delivers, in buckets. Starting from their early days (obviously) it charts the bands development from an up and coming new 80s metal band to one of the biggest rock bands of all time. In depth, the ups and downs are all covered with a mass of fellow musical artists contributing, Scott Ian, Tom Morello, Lars Ulrich, Tom Morello, Chuck D, plus some you might not expect, the awesome Javier Bardem (a massive Metal fan) and a nice cameo from Sooty and Sweep! Absolute quality.

Sheep Detectives (2026)

A kind caring Farmer is found murdered, it's up to his flock of Sheep to solve the murder, who was responsible for this baaaaaa-d crime? This is just a wonderful comedy, so, very much from the Aardman style of quaint humour, just wonderful. A great cast "supports" our wooly detectives, Hugh Jackman as the Farmer 'George' for starters and add the quint essential "Englishness" of Emma Thompson, plus the cast voicing the sheep is top notch, Bryan Cranston, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris O'Dowd and Patrick Stewart amongst the talent on offer. A film for not just kids but one that adults will enjoy equally.

4.5/5

Chum (2026)

Last years 'Dangerous Animals' was just a great Shark movie, gory fun and twisted, so when I heard about this movie 'Pedigree Chum', sorry that's dog food, 'Chum' my tail was wagging, idiots go on a yacht excursion in the Med, but become hunted by a Shark and a psychotic killer, aren't all killers psycho's? anyways, this got a theatrical and VOD release on the same day (never a good sign) so how is it, do we get tension, a cool shark, and hopefully, hopefully some arms and legs getting torn off. A killer shark and Alice Eve in a swimsuit, what can go wrong? well just about everything you can imagine. The characters are turgid, the AI sharks are just laughable, the dialogue spoken like it's been dubbed into English, Alice Eve must have some bills to pay to star in this Turkey alongside a bunch of nobodies, in a film you'd expect to see on the Sci-Fi channel...

2/5 (extra point for the blatant bikini scenes)

Mike Bassett: England Manager (2001)

Well the World Cup just around the corner, deportation's, ESTA's refused, away fans banned, players searched the moment they get off the plane, so let's cheer ourselves up with some solid cheesy comedy from 25 years ago when I'm sure life was simpler. Yes it's a rewatch and it's just as silly as I remember, but who can't enjoy some nonsense like this? You've got Ricky Tomlinson as the hapless but loveable Bassett, ably supported by Bradley Walsh, Alison Redman, Phil Jupitus, and a load of cameos including  Brazilian legends Pele and Ronaldo (!), Keith Allen, Atomic Kitten for some brief eye candy, oh an Gaby Logan who looks like she's 20 years old, I didn't recognize her at first! The movie pretty much pans out as you'd expect but sometimes this is what you want to see for a few sh*ts and giggles.

The Bay (2012)

I'm shocked and disappointed with myself that until last week I'd never even heard of this film until it was recommended by a youtuber a few weeks ago. The biggest surprise is that it's directed by the much respected Barry Levinson who has made some absolute bangers in the past few decades, 'Diner' and 'Tin Men' are two of my all time favourite movies, and he followed these up with such classics as 'Sleepers', 'Rain Man' and 'Good Morning Vietnam' !! This is is first foray into the horror "genre", but yes there are horror moments (and they are well gruesome) but this much more to this movie. It's a found footage style documentary loosely based on true events in the USA when a virus breaks out in the small town of Chesapeake Bay. A mix of grainy footage, interviews and striking moments of gore, this is quality film making as you would hope to get from such an auteur as Levinson and well worth a watch.

4.5/5

Hostel 3 (2011)

So here it is on my trawl though the 'Hostel' series, which I must say I've quite enjoyed, obviously for the wrong reasons! This one isn't directed by Eli Roth though, but Scott Spiegel who is most famous, well for hard core horror fans, for the cult classic 80's VHS slasher 'Intruder'. So, the final episode flips the "action" to a bachelor party in Vegas ("baby") it's 'The Hangover' with no Tiger, and yes the vast majority of the characters are obnoxious jocks, especially one guy who's main vocabulary seems to be the words "Pussy!" and "F*ck" But the good news is they get sliced and diced as you would hope, and the gore is plentiful, especially a rip roaring face ripping, with a cool, if slightly obvious twist ending. Not quite up to the same "standard" as the previous films, but bloody and entertaining trash nether the less.

Hokum (2026)

So here it is, one of the films I've been looking forward to in this already great year for horror. An author, aka annoying Yank, travels to Ireland to scatter his Mothers, staying in an apparently haunted Hotel. "Creepy" and "a fear of dread" said the critics, really? It's never creepy, it's dull, laborious, the main character utterly obnoxious, there's a few jump scenes, if you can call them that, how this garbage got such critical acclaim is beyond me, a borderline turkey of a film, 'Hokum'? Hogwash more like.

Hostel 2 (2017)

Well after rewatch of the first film I thought I'd plow through the series, so it's part 2 from 2017, and is it more of the same? Oh yes, and more. It's pretty much the same scenario, some Yanks go off to dodgy parts of Europe (" there's no safe City's in Europe!") and end up having a pretty shit time. It's gore galore, it's crass, the depiction of Eastern Europe is pure MAGA, kids will kill you for bubblegum again, and rich people will kill and torture for money, again MAGA (hello Jeffery and the orange rapist) The "final girl" is awesome kicking, sorry, slicing and stabbing her way though the final act (and a wicked dick stabbing)  grimy and grubby, I loved it.

Exit 8 (2026)

A Man is trapped in an endless Japanese subway passage searching for the exit, 'Exit 8' he must remember everything he see's, any small change will send him back to the start. Well that's pretty much it, the film is adapted from a video game, the type of game that have ne shouting at the screen pretty soon and hitting the off button, and it's got to be said the film is a pretty slow dull watch. Not much breaks up the monotony of the "plot", only a few scenes randomly involving some mice with human ears and eyes grafted onto the them, blood pouring down a corrider, all very 'The Shining', and that's pretty much it really.

Hostel (2005)

'Hostel' is infamous for many reasons not least as it was what became the start of the so called "torture porn" genre, so I though I'd give it a rewatch 20+ years after it's release. Two young American back packers go on a European trip in search of "good time's", and they get it in the first half of the movie that's for sure! This film really is a tale of two stories, the first half they're partying, hooking up with good looking ladies (how I don't know, talk a bout punching above the weight, and then things go Pete Tong, seriously. One of the back packers apparently has checked out of the hotel, and in searching for his mate is druged, kidnapped....then the "fun" starts. It's a well made and well acted movie, plenty of gore as you might expect, and it must be said is a pretty good solid slice of horror, the copy I "got" featured the alternative ending which is well worth seeking out, something I' m pretty sure I hadn't seen viewing all those years ago.

Movies Of The Month May 2026

A massive month for great new movies, all released in 2026!!! (and all horror!!)

1.Obsession (one of the movies of 2026)

2.Over Your Dead Body (an absolute blood filled blast)

3.Lee Cronin's Mummy (the surprise of the year)

4.Normal (Bob does what Bob does best)

5.Killing Mary Sue (crazy fun)

And the good news is coming very soon are 'Passenger' and 'Backrooms' (which I plan to see next week)

(and it must be a good month if the excellent documentary 'The Crash' doesn't make the top 5)

Fuze (2026)

An unexploded bomb is found in central London, during the chaos of an evacuation a crew of wrong 'uns exploit the chaos to crack a bank vault. It's got to be said I'd never heard of this movie, but looking at the positive reviews, I thought I'd give it a go and it doesn't disappoint. A film which you genuinly don't know what's a round the corner, the actual robbery makes up the first third of the film, but then we get the usual back stabbing but there are so many twists, this makes it a thoroughly entertaining flick with a good fresh cast.

Dead Man's Wire (2025)

Now 'Dog Day Afternoon' from 1975 starring Al Pacino and John Cazale is a classic, based on the true story of a bank robbery that goes wrong, and this flick is a kind of remake? The story is different though, Bill Skarsgard stars as a desperate man who wants justice from the bank he believed ripped him off in a property deal, he takes the son of the Bank's CEO (played brilliantly by Al Pacino) wires a shotgun around his neck, demanding compensation, but most of all, an apology, something Pacino's character refuses! It's a quality film throughout, the 70's is brilliantly recreated, everything's beige, smoke fills every room, Skarsgard is brilliant, as is Dacre Montgomery as the unfortunate kidnap victim, and of course Pacino (though he sadly is only in a few scenes) This is out on Sky Movies, I'd never heard of it until seeing it advertised, and it's well worth checking out.

Over Your Dead Body (2025)

Now when a horror film stars Samara Weaving (Ready Or Not, Guns Akinmo, The Babysitter) it's a must watch, and especially when she's co-starring with Jason Segal (This Is the End, Knocked Up) and this really doesn't disappoint. A couple on the verge of splitting up plan a trip to sew up their marriage, little do they know that they are both planning to kill each other, and then some escaped convicts turn up and it gets really messy... This is a blood soaked laugh riot from start to finish, all the cast are just having a ball, the violence is pure comic book splatter with not one but two shotguns to the head kills! Great fun throughout and another must watch horror flick of 2026.

"Your nose taste's like shit!!!"

Down Terrace (2009)

Director Ben Wheatley has had some highs and lows in his directorial life, just a few day's I watched his most recent, the excellent 'Normal' and 'Sightseers' was a classic, a few duds though 'Meg 2' was a stinker, it's a Megalodon for fucks sake, how can you balls up that concept? Anyways, this is his debut feature and it's a low key, very British, gangster flick, when I say gangster, theses guys aren't Scarface. A good solid cast, lovely to see Julie Deakin, who was Alan Partridge's fling, the "red head in the corner smoking a fag", equally nasty and comical, the murders (executions) are almost treated like an everyday occurrence to be brushed over. Totally mad characters, just wait for the finale, low key, almost all set in their house, no big crash bang wallop moments but quality British film making.

Normal (2026)

Two 'words' Bob Odenkirk, I love this guy, I'm in! I'd seen an early review of this on one of my favourite youtube channels (I think it was Cody Leach) and he said it was one of the big surprises of film festival he saw it at, and boy is this one big surprise. It all starts off pretty low key with a kind of 'Fargo' feel, Bob is a Sherriff posted to a sleepy Midwestern US town, Normal, hoping for a quiet life after the stress of his marital woes and previous work moral woes. The town is hit with a Bank robbery, which in itself is unheard of, but this isn't just a 'normal' bank but one that the locals want to keep secret, and that's when things kick off, and I mean, KICK OFF!
I won't give anything away, just to say this is an absolute riot from there on, great humor throughout, funny, ridiculous characters and completely over the top candy carnage! With a juicy 90 minute runtime, it doesn't overstay it's bloody runtime, packing in laughs and gore throughout!
4.5/5
EDIT I forgot to say, it also stars Henry Winkler, The Fonz as the town Mayor!

Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026)

Now I've never been a fan of The Mummy movies, in all fairness I can't recall bothering to watch any of them, from the early Universal flicks right up to 1999's Brendan Fraser outing, so when when this was announced I really had no interest. Then the reviews came out, it was a total reworking of the story and directed by the man who brought us the awesome 'Evil Dead' reboot back in 2013, one of the great horror movies of the 21st Century, and boy does this deliver! This time a young girl disappears, only to be found 8 years later, great news think the family, not really it must be said. This is just wild, a heady mix of 'The Exorcist' but mostly, it's great to say 'Evil Dead'. This is a blood drenched full on gore-a-thon, stabbings, vomiting, scorpions burrowing out of peoples throats, you name it, it doesn't hold back! A running time of 2 hours 15 mins flies by, highly recommended for all us gore hounds, this and 'Obsession' on the same day!

4.5

Obsession (2026)

Now this is the one I've been really looking forward to, a young Man still in 'love' with his childhood crush, uses what he thinks is a "joke" "make a wish" stick, he wishes that the woman will love him, little does he know how it pans out. This is pure Twilight Zone stuff, but ramped up to 10, the build up is slow and tense, once the wish is fulfilled, well the gloves are off in the horror masterclass. The sense of dread is nerve racking, the tension at times unbearable. What happens isn't the main horror, it your sense of what is around the corner..Inde Navarrette as the love interest Nikki puts in an astonishing performance, a masterclass in modern horror, the screams she bellows out, her facial expressions, that sinister long lasting 'smile, he body movement, a truly Oscar winning performance. The one moment people will remember is the jump scene and what immediately happens afterwards, this is just a baseball bat to the face moment, the lead up to the scene making it even more gut wrenching. Quite easily one of the best horror films of the past decade and this years 'Weapons' in the cinema world of terror!

4.5/5

The Crash (2026) Netflix

A teenager has a high speed crash, killing two other people, her boyfriend and his best friend, what looks like a tragic accident soon uncovers something sinister, was it actually an 'accident'? This is a superbly produced documentary from Netflix, it plays out slowly building up the story with genuine footage of the horrendous aftermath of the crash, CCTV footage of the actual crash and interviews with the Police, family and close friends. The outcome is quite shocking, with real footage from the Courtroom on making their judgment and the outcome to all those involved. Essential viewing.

Believe Me (2026) TV Series

This is a ITV dramatization of the horrendous case of John Warboys, a serial rapist in the early 2000's, who preyed on women he picked up in his black cab, and the victims fight for justice and his subsequent "successful" parole appeal. Spread over four episodes this is thoughtful, grim, and brilliantly acted television. Daniel Mays as always is top notch, as the pathetic vile Warboys, the two lead actress's Aimee-Ffion Edwards and Aasiya Shah are just superb as two of the victims, as they fight for justice, Warboys has been jailed, but they were never believed, cast aside by an utterly inept Metropolitan  Police Force, a disgrace to justice. Hard hitting, it will depress you but equally anger you that these two woman, if believed and properly investigated, could have prevented further horrifying attack on young women, who's lives would be damaged immeasurably.

Barbarian (2012)

From the Director who brought us the awesome 'Weapons' last year this was  Zach Kreuger's debut full length feature, and though, of course, not up to the extreme horror of it's processor, it's still a fine piece of twisted horror. A woman rent's an Airbnb in a rough neighborhood of Detroit, and it's not all what it seems.  As you would expect it's a creepy dark eerie movie, Georgina Campbell as the main star is excellent throughout, the film unravels a twisted tale, a sure sign of a confident director which is unleashed fully a few years later with his masterpiece of horror unleashed a few years later. Quality horror, the aforementioned 'Weapons'  went full throttle, and this guy really is one to watch, with the rumors being he wants to bring back Freddy Kreuger for a new 'Nightmare On Elm Street' movie, yes please!

Faces Of Death (2026)

Now this is the sequel/remake nobody expected, not least me! The original was a grimy video nasty 'documentary' infamous back then for showing real life footage of death and murder, quite tame by standards nowadays, so what on earth would this be about? In this re-imaging of the original, a woman has the job of moderating online content, and comes across a series of video's what seems to be reproducing the deaths in the original release. Now this is one gnarly dirty horror flick, shades of 'Hostile', it doesn't flinch with the violence, is it any good? Well yeah, but not one you would give a rewatch, a brave slice of horror, worth a look but one that will probably be forgotten about quite soon.

3.5/5

The Bank Job (2018)

Jason Statham.

Yes, it is him, and I can't believe this one slipped past me. I love the Stath's, who doesn't, so I had the usual "expectations"for this one."Based" on a true story of a real life robbery back in the early 70's,  the Stath's recruits  a rag bag gang for a big bucks high stakes bank job (clue in the title). It's got a big ass Brit cast, Saffron Burrows (the posh one), Daniel Mays, Peter Bowles (another posh one), Keeley Hawes and even Craig Fairbrass turns up as the 'muscle'. It's good fun, not much ass kicking from the main man, it's riddled with cliched characters, but it's all dumb harmless fun.

3.5/5

The Client (1994)

We're blasting back 30 years to the glorious 90's and this film has that feel. A great cast, Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones for starters, always great value for money as is the young Brad Refro in his debut as "The Client" Mark Sway who has to testify against a Mob gang. The ensemble cast is great too, William H Macy, J T Walsh, Will Patton etc, it's a heady mix of drama, tension, some court room drama which I just love, all combined by the 90's legend Joel Schumacher who brought us such big 90's hits as 'Flatliners', 'Falling Down' and 'St Elmo's Fire' and 'The Lost Boys' from the heady 80's. Great entertainment throughout and one I'm pleased to finally catch up with.

Killing Mary Sue (2025)

A corrupt Senator (aren't they all ) plans to kill his stepdaughter who is scandal prone and very bad for his image, especially with an up coming election. This is great violent gory fun from the off, Sierra McCormack as Sue is just brilliant, loud mouthed, brash with a great set of killing skill, which are explained later, it can't surely just from playing video games you may think. The violence is off the scale, great humour throughout, larger than life fun characters, the film never slows down and is perfect popcorn fun, a heady mix of 'John Wick' and numerous other bloody carnage flicks, and highly recommended!

Kraken (2026)

I was so looking forward to this, I love monster movies, so I eagerly awaited some creature feature candy...what a let down. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad movie, just not very good! The premise is good, strange things are afoot in a Norwegian fjord including the grisly death of two teenagers, all signs point to a mythical creature deep in the water. The acting all round is high quality, the plot builds perfectly, the scenery is just stunning, it's just this film doesn't combine all these elements. It's low budget, so the beast is pretty much just rubber tentacles flailing about, no real monster "action", no tension, and by the end it's a case of "meh, is that it?"

Hunting Season (2025)

Got to admit the first thing I drew my attention to this little known drama/thriller was Mel Gibson, always loved "mad" Mel, from his early days of the 'Mad Max' and 'Lethal Weapon' movies right up to lesser known stuff such as the excellent 'Fat Man' and 'Dragged Across Concrete', he's always value for money, and he doesn't disappoint here. Mel plays Bowdrie who lives a secluded life with his daughter 'Tag', their life is changed when 'Tag' discovers a young Woman in the woodland, shot and beaten. A dubious bunch are out to finish the job and he must use all his wits to defend her, but foremost his daughter. Solid performances throughout, a good strong story, yes we've seen this kind of thing before, but its entertaining with all guns blazing in the OTT finale, and well worth a viewing.

Obsession (2026) **COMING SOON** 15/5/26

2026 is dishing out some really cool movies so far, and this one looks the dogs boll**ks. A lonely young Man uses a cursed "toy" to get his childhood crush to fall in love with him...with dire consequences, it's not all candle light dinners and romantic vacations. It comes out 15th May, and has received huge critical praise, 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film looks so chilling and apparently Inde Navarrette's performance as the focus of the "obsession" Nikki,  give's a powerhouse performance, which you get small twisted glimpses of in in the trailer, of what looks like a brutal, totally unsettling performance. Strap me in!!

Hypnotic (2023)

Ben Aflick stars as Danny, a detective investigating the mystery of his young daughters disappearance which slowly, and I mean, slowly, unravels a secret Government programme. Aflick is in full frowny mode for the entire film, there's loads of grimacing, vehicles crashing, and gunfire, and I mean LOTS of gunfire! It does star the always excellent William Fichtner ('Armageddon', 'Black Hawk Down' etc) as a Government agent, all dead eyes and black suit. It's a clunky Sci-Fi crime thriller with shades of 'Inception,' the actual overall story is pretty good, but the slow pace makes it hard to recommend.

Evil Dead Burns (2026) **FIRST OFFICIAL TRAILER**

Here it is (click the link)  the first official trailer of the latest 'Evil Dead' movie in the franchise. The trailer looks juicy, I have to admit I enjoyed the last installment 'Rise' but not as much as the remake from 2013, which was a blood soaked masterpiece of modern horror, but I will be booking my ticket for the big screen when it's released on July 10th, my birthday!!!

Crazy Old Lady (2025)

Wow, a crazy old Lady she certainly is! A Man is asked by his ex-girlfriend to check on her Mother, who's and, and sanity, she is concerned about, and boy, the poor fella will soon regret it. Tied up, gagged and tortured, and much worse. This is a mad Spanish horror flick from the good folks at 'Shudder', sadistic, nasty and "funny" for quite all the wrong reasons, shades of the classic 'Misery', even with subtitles it's worth your attention for 90 minutes.

They Will Kill You (2026)

"When the poor give to the rich...the Devil laughs"

Well to say this film is batshit bonkers is an understatement. Imagine a big bloody boiling pot of madness, 'Kill Bill' meets 'John Wick' meets 'Evil Dead'  (the eyeball scenes are just a blast) with obvious nods to the more recent 'Ready Or Not' movies. It's wickedly dark, blood soaked, full of sick dark humour and high octane action  for pretty much it's entire running time. Blood drenched and full of kick ass stabby stabby action, and as for the finale? Totally mental!!

"A Pig on a stick, really??"

Piranha 3DD (2010)

An absolute trash horror classic, what more can you ask for, directed by Alexander Aja the man who gave us the awesome 'Switchblade Romance', 'Crawl' and the mental  'Maniac' and 'The Hills Have Eyes' remake's. The film kicks off with Richard Dreyfuss getting munched, tits, ass, gore, more flesh then more flesh, believe me loads of it, getting ripped off various partying teen limbs.

The dialogue is dumb as it gets, the characters utter pricks, but who cares, faces are ripped off, bodies decapitated and Kelly Brook and Riley Steele run around in  bikini's the whole time!

This Is Not A Test (2026)

A group of teen's takeover a School to take on a Zombie hoard during an 'apocalypse'

I've had this one on my 'to watch' list for some so finally got round to giving it a view and boy was it worth the wait. The group of "kids" are all likeable with strong performances all round, the Zombies are great, very nasty fast moving f****rs, some bloody gore, big shades of the "28 Days" series, and it's got some Metal in the soundtrack!

The Drama (2026)

This is hugely powerful stuff and with a very hard hitting subject which I won't spoil. A couple Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Robert Pattinson) are planning their wedding, they meet up with good friends for dinner, after a few "too many drinks" the conversation goes awkwardly to "what is the worst thing you've ever done", seriously this is one ally you you shouldn't be strolling down. Emma is the final person to answer, the confession is devastating, a brutal moment in her life when she was at an absolute low mentally. The entire film from then on is brutal, how do you feel about this person you love so much was borderline going to do something so awful? Powerhouse performances from both leads, this is absolute quality I cannot recommend highly enough.

Hatchet 2 (2010)

You know what you're in for here when after less than 10 minutes some redneck gets throttled by his own intestines until his head literally 'pops' off, then we're straight into a death metal soundtrack, and seat belts on people for 90 minutes of corn ball plot/acting and OTT un-rated gore!

This is  a great series of pure 80's slasher territory, seen 'Friday 13th'? So have the makers of this flick, deformed maniac on the loose in the woods reeking revenge on those who have wronged him, the acting and plot are pretty dire but it's still pretty good late night beer + pizza entertainment with the gore cranked up to 11!

Tucker And Dale Vs Evil (2012)

Two good old Hill Billys are on vacation enjoying some fishing and plenty of drinking, when they run into a bunch of College kids though things take a turn for the worse.

Forget the miserable "Scary Movie" franchise from back in the day, this is how you do a horror satire, all the clichés are thrown in, toothless "threatening" roughnecks, obnoxious teens, but what this film delivers is great comedy, likeable characters, and buckets of gore. (oh and Katrina Bowden!)
The film is a glorious satire on the slasher flick, hugely entertaining, I've watched this crazy movie numerous time's and it's just as good as I remember first time. Highly recommended not just to horror fans but anyone looking for a solid 90 mins of fun and cartoon  style gore.

The Cabin In The Woods (2011)

This is one movie I love to give a rewatch every few years as it is undoubtably one of the most original, gory and fun horror movies of the 21st Century. Five college friends go on a short vacation but not knowing to them they are participants in a nasty "experiment". The characters are likeable, the gore insane, great dark humour, the monsters awesome and the finale just bat sh*t insane. An absolute blast from the very off!!
